About the exercise data

Easy Diet Diary has a large collection of exercise and physical activity data and the corresponding Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) values. The exercise data is derived from the Compendium of Physical Activities (2011).

Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) is an indication of the amount of energy burnt during planned physical activity. 1 MET represents the energy that would be burnt at rest in 1 minute. Which is 3.5mL of oxygen, per kilogram of body weight, per minute.

An activity that requires more energy than rest, will have a MET value >1. The higher the METs for an activity or exercise, the more calories expended. Using METs is a standardised estimation of energy expenditure.

The energy expended during physical activity is calculated using the following formula: Calories burnt per minute of exercise = [METs * 3.5 * body weight (kg)] / 200. Where Current weight is not available on your Profile, Easy Diet Diary will use a reference weight for the Calories burnt per minute of exercise calculation. For the most accurate estimation of energy expended, please provide Current weight on your Profile.
